€1.3 million direct orders from MEPA to Group 4
In four years, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) awarded Group 4 Security contracts worth €1.3 million through direct orders.
In the last four years, MEPA issued €1,352,326.55 worth of contracts to Group 4 Security, according to a reply to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Leo Brincat.
According to information tabled in parliament, the firm has been commissioned for clerical services, legal secretarial services, security and messenger services.
In 2007, MEPA paid €170,726 for security services, with the cost increase year by year. During the current legislature up until September, MEPA paid the security company €924,913 for security services.
G4S has so far been paid €239,152 for clerical services and €4,338 for legal secretarial services - the company was only contracted once for this service.
During 2010 and 2011, MEPA gave G4S €13,195 for messenger services.
In 2008, MaltaToday had revealed how millions in euros in direct orders and contracts had been outsourced to G4 back in August 2008: in late 2007, the Foundation for Medical Services, falling under Lawrence Gonzi's finance ministry, issued a direct order to Group 4 Securitas (G4S) "as a continuation of the service" that G4S had previously provided Skanska, the Swedish firm entrusted with the construction of Mater Dei.
In total, some €4.6 million in services had been granted by direct order to the company, as revealed in a report by the National Audit Office.
