According to UNHCR, an estimated 1,500 migrants fleeing Libya never made it to Malta or Italy during the uprising

The tragic estimate was revealed by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson Laura Boldrini during her presentation of the report 'Transatalntic Trends - Immigration' which was prepared by the German Marshall Fund. The report states how Malta received some 1,000 migrants from Libya, while Italy received some 28,000 over the eight months of the uprising. It also explains that 1.3 million other sub Saharan migrants migrated to neighbouring Egypt and Tunisia and were hosted in refugee camps on the respective frontiers.

"A TRAITOR" - let's keep this civilized so spare us the far right terminology. Traitors don't express their opinion on newspapers, they work in the shadows. Or do you support those who have a list of 50 people who will be hanged when they "get into power"

If someone defending the interest of our country , our traditions , our social services ,places and conditions of work , is concidered by clowns like Antoine Vella to be racists , what would you call those who are putting aside the interests of his fellow citizens , A TRAITOR ?

Correct me if Im wrong but I doubt that Joseph Muscat was responsible in signing the Dublin 2 treaty, which basically forces illegal immigrants to stay in Malta even if its against their will.

It is a tragedy that Malta could not avert. Even Italy, with its huge naval and air assets, failed to save what Boldrini estimates are 1,500 souls. However, i cannot see how one can politicise such a tragedy, as Antoine Vella is doing. If Maltabliss is a racist, how can the warped mind of Antoine Vella point the finger at 'Your Leader'. Of course he is referring to Joseph Muscat, i do not recall that he ever said that we should leave them at sea in Malta's interest. What he said is the the PN government was hopelessly helpless in obtaining a fair deal in the whole matter of illegal immigration when faced by his European peers.

Maltabliss, of course you won't shed any tears for these people. They are black - enemies to you - and your Leader has told you that "in the interest of Malta", they should be left at sea. And if they drown? Well you said it: it's their fault.

Can armchair critic hero Maltabiss inform us how does he know what these people had in their minds when they tried to cross the Mediterranean? * You want Ms Boldroni to take them to her country or their own. She's actually inquiring where they are. Do you any have info about their wherebouts? Otherwise quite a useless comment isn't it?

According to Maltatoday on 9 December 2011, http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/en/newsdetails/news/national/Malta-offers-to-help-during-Libya-s-elections#.TuL3kCLbIZI.email “On illegal immigration, Tonio Borg said the Libyans made it clear that Muammar Gaddafi had used the issue as a political leverage, and had been involved both directly and indirectly in the departure of illegal immigrants from the country.” We all hope that UNHCR does not become the objective accomplice of those who, like Gaddafi, want to use illegal immigrants as a political weapon with which to punish Malta and Italy. Indeed, UNHCR should have a campaign in Libya and Tunisia to discourage illegal immigrants from risking their lives by going on overloaded and unseaworthy boats in the hope of making it to southern European shores.

Does Boldrini expect us to shed tears for these irresponsible illegal immigrants when they could have safely traveled back to their own countries or to another African country like the others did? ** They only tried to come to Europe and Malta because of our generous social services for which they have paid nothing and putting our social services in danger of collapse to our detriment. ** Send them all back to their own countries or if Boldrini wants to she can take them to her own country.
