Liquigas complains of gas being sold at higher prices
Liquigas says its recommended selling prices have not been altered since October 2011.
Gas bottling company Liquigas said gas distributors are selling gas above its recommended price.
"Liquigas is now aware that some distributors have increased the selling price of gas. Such price increases are coming directly from some distributors who decided on their own to increase their prices for consumers," the company said in a statement.
It said that distributors are not authorised to modify Liquigas recommended selling prices without any instruction or approval.
"The company is gathering information and will soon inform the public of the areas where gas is still being sold at the prices recommended by Liquigas," it said.
Liquigas added that while gas consumers were left without having their choice of distributor in terms of service during 2011, "2012 started with gas consumers suffering discrimination in terms of price for the same product".
The authorities and the Office of Fair Trading, have the responsibility of defending the consumer, Liquigas said.
"They should stop actions that are created by a cartel made up of a number of distributors. The authorities are to ensure a free market where competition reigns and consumer gains," it said.
