‘Thriller auction’ brings Michael Jackson’s hair to Malta
A tuft of hair belonging to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has been brought to Malta by a locally based online casino company, which acquired it during what has been described as a “thriller” auction in New York last week.
The hair was bought by OnlineGamblingPal.com for the price of US$10,871.
It was collected at New York's renowned Carlyle Hotel, where Jackson had stayed during a charity event.
It was subsequently auctioned online by specialist memorabilia merchant, Gottahaverockandroll.com.
The auction was described to be a closely fought affair, opening at US$1,000 and attracting 15 bids before it closed.
According to auction specialists, the bidding process was proved to be a "real thriller" and despite fierce competition from rival Jackson fans, OnlineGamblingPal.com was able to secure this novel keepsake.
"Since we're big Michael Jackson fans, we are very pleased that we won the auction," said Jack Mason, spokesperson for OnlineGamblingPal.com.
"We had been looking for a fitting way in which to celebrate this entertainment colossus' life since his tragic death in 2009."
Upon hearing of the auction, the website seized this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immortalise a small part of the King of Pop in a truly unique way. The hair is being kept in Malta.
