Updated | Eight injured in two separate traffic accidents
Eight persons were taken to Mater Dei Hospital late this afternoon following two separate traffic accidents. One of the injured was in critical condition but has stabilised.
Eight persons were admitted to Mater Dei Hospital late yesterday afternoon after they were involved in two separate traffic accidents.
The first accident happened at around 6:15pm, when the Police were informed two cars - a Ford Transit and a Mini Cooper - had collided head-on in Triq il-Mistra, limits of Mellieha.
The Transit, driven by 49-year-old man residing in Gharghur, was headed towards Mellieha, while the Mini Cooper, driven by a 19-year-old man from the Netherlands but residing in Malta, was headed in the opposite direction.
The Transit was also carrying three passengers, two women aged 23 and 39 and a 52-year-old man, all from Mellieha.
Both drivers and passengers were taken to Mater Dei. The 52-year-old man was certified to be suffering from grievous injuries and was in danger of dying but police said that his condition has since stabilised.
The 23-year-old woman suffered from minor injuries while the grievous non-life-threatening injuries were incurred by the 39-year-old woman.
The road is currently closed to traffic.
Half an hour later, the Police were notified of another traffic accident in Triq il-Kbira, Mosta.
The Police said that a 29-year-old man residing in San Gwann lost control of his BMW and crashed into a rubble wall and four cars: a Peugeot, a Hyundai, a Fiat and a Mazda.
A 49-year-old man who was in the Peugeot and a 19-year-old man who was in the Hyundai also suffered injuries following the impact.
Police investigations are still ongoing.
