Funeral mass for Duncan Zammit: ‘let’s give families courage and comfort they need’
A call for national solidarity for the families of Duncan Zammit and Nicholas Gera was made today by the concelebrant at Zammit's funeral mass, at the Jesus of Nazareth parish church in Sliema.
Fr Charles Tabone called on the public to unite in giving the families of Zammit and Gera, who were murdered in an alleged assault at Zammit's penthouse, the courage and comfort they needed.
"Let us use the internt to show solidarity with the families, and share their sorrow," Tabone said, referring to the speculation surroundng the New Year's Day tragedy that is currently still under police investigation.
Zammit, 32, is believed to have been stabbed to death in his bedroom as he slept with his wife and three-month-twins. Alleged aggressor Gera, 26, was also found dead in the apartment.
"Who knew Duncan knew what a good man he was. He was a hard worker, having moved forward in his job diligently. He had a successful four-year marriage in which he gave his life to his wife and twins, having taken three months off to be with his children," Tabone said in his eulogy.
"He lived for others, especially his family. He cooked, cleaned, washed the babies and fed them... he had a big heart, and a great smile."
Tabone said Zammit's character should help his family move forward. "I'm certain it's this what he wants. But there is one important thing to live a good life... to be able to forgive."
