[WATCH] No-confidence motion vote next Thursday
PN parliamentarians agree on nine-hour session for vote on Thursday next week
The House Business Committee has resolved for a debate on the Opposition's no-confidence motion that will see government MPs take the floor for nine hours, while the Opposition will be granted one hour and a half to speak for the motion, starting Monday. The Prime Minister is expected to conclude the debate.
Nationalist whip David Agius announced the debate on the no-confidence motion will start on Monday with nine hours for its government MPs to debate the motion, with a vote to be taken next Thursday evening.
Agius also said there had been no form of communication yet with Nationalist MP Franco Debono, who has insisted he will vote in favour of the no-confidence motion.
The Nationalist parliamentary group met this afternoon ahead of tonight's first parliamentary sitting, backbencher Franco Debono has not yet indicated whether he will be present in the House tonight.
Franco Debono was not present for the meeting.
"Perhaps a survey should be held amongst people to see who they think the unelected clique that is deciding everything in this country are," Debono - who is still insisting he will vote against the government in parliament - told MaltaToday when asked about his intentions tonight.
Debono has been called upon by the PN's parliamentary group and executive committee to resign his seat, after withdrawing his support from the government and calling for Lawrence Gonzi's resignation.
The Labour motion of no-confidence will be debated in the House on Monday, with the government taking nine hours to debate the motion.
Another procedural motion by the Opposition to debate the no-confidence motion on Friday with 90 minutes allocated to each side, has not yet been withdrawn by Labour contrary to press reports on the House Business Committee this week. The procedural motion originally called for the no-confidence motion to be discussed tomorrow Thursday between 9am and 12pm, and afterwards the vote would be taken.
