Man from the South | Joe Psaila Savona

MaltaToday interviews former PN tourism parliamentary secretary Joe Psaila Savona. He knows what it means to be a Nationalist candidate in the overwhelmingly Labour south of Malta.

Joe Psaila Savona first stood as a PN candidate in the pre-dominantly Labour 3rd District which included Zejtun at the toughest time possible: 1981, and was first elected to parliament in 1987.

In his comments on the change in political atmosphere between today and the early 1980s, he simply brushes aside all notions of comparison with a wave of his hand and says that the tension back then was 200 times as much as it is today.

The political tension the country experienced in the 80's are now very distant however  Psaila Savona admits that when elections come along a small fraction of the earlier tension seems to briefly make a comeback.

On the current political crisis Psaila Savona said that while he sympathises with some of the issues raised by Franco Debono, he believes that open rebellion is not the way forward.
