Labour MP hits out at drugs court extension

“Worst exemplar of planning for Valletta”, says MEPA board member and Labour MP.

Labour MP Roderick Galdes said the new drugs court building is "the worst exemplar of planning" the government could give to Valletta.

The spokesperson for planning and urban development said the permits issued for the building raised serious doubts on the approval of the drugs court construction because it breached existing planning policies for Valletta.

Galdes, also a MEPA board member, said recent developments inside Valletta did not respect planning rules and were not uniform to the rest of the city's building.

"It is shameful that this court extension was built using non-traditional building material, and with high walls that will keep ruin the aesthetic of existing buildings. This is in total contrast to the way MEPA acts with citizens on buildings of lesser importance.
