Policeman in lucky escape as suspect drives off and drags him with car

A police officer had a lucky escape when he was dragged by a car which attempted to flee a drug raid in Marsa.

Four people, including a 29 year old woman from Marsa were arrested in connection with the raid, which reportedly yielded a quantity of heroin.

A police statement explained that drugs squad police officers intercepted a car in Marsa where three men were surprised while abusing heroin.

The men -a 25 year-old from Valletta, 29 year-old and 47 year-old, both from Bormla - were arrested on the scene, soon after their vehicle was stopped when the driver attempted to flee as an officer put his hand through the window to take away the keys from the ignition.

The officer was said to have sustained slight injuries.

The 25 year-old driver alone is expected to be charged with the attempted in jury of the officer.

The woman was arrested from a residence in Marsa, connected to the three men.

All four suspects have been detained at the Floriana headquarters and are expected to be arraigned in Court in the coming days.
