Former Royal Navy marine in €2,000 drunken rampage
UPDATED | Bradford man must pay back damages before being removed from the island.
A former Royal Navy marine, Darren Storey, 29, has been charged before Magistrate Claire Zammit Stafrace for having caused a fracas in Birzebbugia, late on Saturday night.
Storey, who only had GBP90 in his pocket, was charged with causing €2,000 in damages to private property.
He is accused of having cased damages to a number of private cars, a residence's main door, a parapet and a statue, while drunk.
Storey said he wants to return to his hometown in Bradford, but the court warned him that it cannot allow him to return without paying.
Storey said his father had deposited €1,000 in the morning, but withdrawals can only be made in amounts of €250 every day.
The former Royal marine had appeared in a Pymouth court last year accused of sexually assaulting a woman.
Storey, who was based at Stonehouse Barracks, denied the allegation.
Magistrates ruled that the case was so serious that it should be heard at Plymouth Crown Court.
Storey was released to appear back before magistrates as the case continued.
