Convicted robber names accomplice in 2009 shooting, hold-up
A man who last January was convicted to 15 years in jail for shooting at a shop owner and injuring him during a hold-up, named his accomplice before a magistrate.
Jonathan Coleiro, 27 of Cospicua, named Matthew Mizzi as his accomplice in a hold-up he had committed in April 2009 - and admitted to the crime last January at the start of a trial. He was convicted to 15 years' imprisonment.
Coleiro was found guilty of entering All Mobiles store armed with a revolver. He was hooded and fired a warning shot and ordered the owner to go to a room at the back of the shop before stealing three mobile phones and a laptop, together worth about €2,500.
The owner reacted got angry and tried to attack Coleiro, who turned and fired five shots at him point blank. Only one shot hit the man, injuring him in his left arm.
Injured, the shop owner attempted to run after Coleiro as escaped in a getaway car which was driven by Matthew Mizzi, who now faces charges of complicity and accessory to attempted murder.
Mizzi appeared before Magistrate Audrey Demicoli, while Police Inspector Keith Arnaud prosecuted.
