Jurors clear bouncer of causing migrant’s death outside Paceville club

A nine-strong jury has acquitted a bouncer of causing serious injury, followed by death of a Sudanese migrant outside a Paceville club in 2009.

Duncan Deguara, 32 of Paola was handed a unanimous 'not guilty' vote by the jurors after a short deliberation.

Deguara was however found guilty of working as a security guard without a license.

Judge Michael Mallia presided, while lawyers Emmanuel Mallia and Arthur Azzopardi were defence counsel.

What i know is only what the papers have said of this case, but from what i can understand, Abubaker was a known trouble maker. I am not usually sympathetic with bouncers, but i think this time the Sudanese was looking for trouble. I do not agree with the other commentators of this column who have raised the issue of racism. It is easy to remember cases of bouncers who have butchered Maltese lads. What has to be done in all cases in Paceville is to have working CCTV cameras (not the disco owner's cameras) that can be decisive in solving cases of misbehavior by both bouncers and patrons.

@not amused. I agree 100% with your comment. Imagine if it was a Maltese man, and mostly with 'blue eye'! What, or who, would have the prosecution brought as witness????? And probably since he was a black, and an immigrant as well, the prosecution didn't worry much about investigating this case seriously! There are alot of Maltese idiots on the streets, but they always find some type of protection.

Wonderful verdict!! How many witnesses, that knew the victim did the prosecution bring forward to testify??? A very lousy job by the prosecution if you ask me!!

What a shameful verdict and the short deliberation says it all. Defies all logic or basic human decency. The question of how a person can just drop dead in our streets will be conveniently buried with Mr. Suleiman Abubaker. Racist verdict? Just imagine what the outcome would have been had the victim been white. RIP Mr. Suleiman Abubaker

Good, because it seems that illegal immigrants have more rights than Maltese citizens and can do what they like. I wonder why they are allowed to remain here since the situation in their countries are getting much better. http://it.finance.yahoo.com/notizie/italia-etiopia-140-imprese-agli-182605839.html Italia-Etiopia: 140 imprese agli incontri in Confindustria
