UK minister diminishes Scottish quest for independence, says they ‘would be like Malta’
An independent Scotland would resemble ‘a small country like Malta’ when it came to its significance on currency, a senior British government minister has said.
Danny Alexander: Scotlands economy, while important, only resembled one-tenth of the UKs economy, meaning it would be an insignificant player in a currency union, it was reported today.
Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander said Scotland's economy, while important, only resembled one-tenth of the UK's economy, meaning it would be an insignificant player in a currency union, it was reported today.
He compared Scotland within a Sterling union to the case of Germany, "which is seen to be a much larger player in the eurozone than other smaller countries such as Malta."
