Young candidates take the centre stage
A number of young candidates gain an impressive tally of votes and Qormi and possibly Mosta will have new mayors.
A number of young candidates have once again played an important role in the local elections as new candidates such as Rosianne Cutajar who contested the Qormi election on the Labour ticket has been elected as mayor on her first attempt.
Another young candidate who did very well on his first election is Alex Muscat who gained 2097 votes and will be elected mayor if the Labour Party re-confirms its majority in Mosta.
The PN's administrative council president and outgoing Siggiewi councillor, Carol Aquilina gained 1332 votes and will be the new mayor of Siggiewi.
Meanwhile, Paula Mifsud Bonnici who is the PN general council president gained 1396 votes in Hamrun. Altghough she has gained the highest number of votes in the locality, Mifsud Bonnici will not be mayor as the Labour Party confirmed its majority.
In Dingli, outgoing mayor Ian Borg gained an impressive 1450 votes from 2230 votes cast. Borg attained 66% of all votes cast.
In Mrasaxlokk, the Nationalist Party managed to elect one councillor, with Angelo Micallef gaining the only seat for his party with 220 votes.
The candidate with highest number of votes in this round of elections is former Zurrieq Mayor, Ignatius Farrugia, with 2,544 votes.
