Parliament suspended in memory of Censu Tabone
House agrees to adjourn parliament as a sign of respect; state funeral to be held next Saturday morning
The Maltese Parliament this evening suspended its sitting and adjourned for next Tuesday as to express its condolences and solidarity for the demise of President Emeritus Censu Tabone.
Tabone passed away earlier today at the age of 98. In two weeks' time, Tabone would have celebrated his 99th birthday.
Leader of the House Carm Mifsud Bonnici said Tabone will be remembered for always being there to serve the people, while always keeping his family close to his heart. Mifsud Bonnici said that even when Tabone retired from his political career, he still remained close to the people.
"Everyone has a high opinion of him and he will always be remembered in this way by both political sides," Mifsud Bonnici said, adding that Tabone had been instrumental in opening new chapters in the Maltese history.
Labour MP Joe Sammut joined Mifsud Bonnici in expressing condolences on behalf of the Opposition.
Mifsud Bonnici said the state funeral will be held next Saturday morning.
