Bulgarians arrested in drug bust

Two Bulgarians have been remanded in custody after admitting to charges of importing one kilogramme of cannabis from Sicily.

A customs operation has led to the seizure of one kilogramme of cannabis which was found to be hidden inside the bumper of a Bulgarian registered BMW, which arrived in Malta from Sicily by Catamaran.

Two Bulgarian nationals, brothers Marian and Nenov aged 28 and 26 respectively, were immediately arrested and handed over to the police for investigation.

The two were charged in court with conspiracy to import and traffic drugs, and pleaded guilty to the charges.

They were immediately remanded in custody at Corradino Prisons and will be sentenced at a later date.

The two brothers resided in St. Paul's Bay.
