Enemalta strengthens its distribution network
Enemalta says it is strengthening its distribution network as the equipment for the Kappara distribution centre arrives to Malta.
Enemalta said that four 80 tonnes transformers for the newly constructed Kappara Distribution Centre will be delivered during the coming days.
The corporation said that the Kappara Distribution centre is being constructed to serve two main functions. "It will act as a hub in the distribution network for the eastern part of Malta, comprising of Pembroke, Swieqi, St Julian's, Sliema, Gzira and Msida."
Enemalta added "the centre will also serve as a connection point between power coming form the European Interconnector to the 132kV network in Malta."
Earlier this month, Enemalta announced that it has commenced the process to install a €200 submarine interconnector, which will connect Malta to the European electricity grid. Currently the design of the interconnector and shore-stations have been finalised and manufacturing of the component parts for the terminal plant on shore has commenced. The project will be completed by October 2013.
The Kappara distribution centre will be the third 132kV centre in Malta. The other two centres which are already in operation are the one in Mosta which supplies power to the North of Malta and Gozo and the one in Marsa supplying power to the central part of Malta.
