Marsaskala residents have welcomed the continuation of works in Triq il-Gandoffli, after the road was abandoned soon after it was dug up.

Yesterday, the residents expressed concern at how the works had started some seven weeks ago, and left in a wreck for over four week to the detriment of the residents themselves.

Some of the residents ended up with their cars blocked inside as the exit was blocked.

In a reaction, Transport Malta said that it had fined the contractor and that works are now expected to be finished by April 4.

Today, the residents said they were pleased to see that workers and construction machinery of Polidano Bros Ltd were back inside.

"This happened after residents have had their belongings locked inside for more than four weeks and less than 24 hours from releasing this story into the press," the residents said.

"Now we just hope that the project is completed within a reasonable time frame and of satisfactory quality level."

The residents added that the immediate action by Transport Malta "proves that we live in a proper democracy where Maltese citizens have the power of the media to bring to light any perceived injustices".

Polidano Brothers Ltd makes reference to the various press statements and comments issued over the last two days regarding works at Triq il-Gandoffli in Marsascala, wherein it was stated that Polidano Brothers Ltd had ‘abandoned’ the said site. It is pertinent to point out that, irrespective of the statements made, the facts are the following: 1. Works commenced on site in February 2012. 2. On the 1st March 2012, Polidano Brothers Ltd had requested clearance from Enemalta (through Transport Malta) regarding the final levels of Enemalta Cables. 3. Transport Malta informed Polidano Brothers Ltd that the Enemalta issue had been resolved on the 23rd March 2012 (22 days after the issue had been raised by Polidano Brothers Ltd). 4. Works resumed on site on the 28th March 2012 (5 days after the notificationby the Authorities) and were completed within the day. Whilst appreciating the residents’ frustration at the bureaucratic situation, Polidano Brothers Ltd confirms its commitment to deliver to the best of its abilities. It is certainly not laughable for the people concerned. These things only happen because we have an incompetent arrogant government led by its nose by the klikka ta' gewwa for their own benefit.

These stories are always laughable. A few metres of road and it makes headlines in newspapers and on the TV News. 'Fixing' the problem is called 'progress" by Maltese standards I suppose it is. But it is ridiculous to have happened in the first place.
