Ten migrants die while fleeing Libya, as AFM, Italy rescue 48 adrift off Lampedusa

Ten migrants are believed to have died as they fled Libya by sea

News of the latest tragedy involving migrants at sea was made known by 48 migrants who were rescued by the Italian Coast Guard to the South of Lampedusa early this morning.

The rescue operation was coordinated by the Armed Forces Rescue Coordination Centre at Luqa.

According to the migrants, ten of them had died of thirst and hunger, after their boat was adrift for days.

The Somali and Eritrean migrants, which included three pregnant women have been taken aboard the Italian navy ship 'Orione' and are reportedly heading to Sicily for processing.

The only way to stop this invasion is to send all illegal immigrants back from where they came. None must be allowed to stay including those already here wherever they come from.

a war organised by the coalition of colonial powers in which thousands of libyans most of them civilians were killed, a dictator was butchered by his captors instead of bringing him to justice and where has this left libya. just where it was two years ago. bye bye supposed democracy.....

UNHCR should do its duty and send an urgent message to all the sub-Saharan Africans on the Libyan coast that they should not try the dangerous sea crossing. That way UNHCR will help to save lives.
