G4S signs union agreements for new benefits for employees
New collective agreement gives employees progression system in industry clouded by allegations of illicit work conditions.
A collective agreement for the employees of security firm Group 4 Securitas will ensure no employee is paid just a basic minimum wage, with the industry currently in the spotlight over precarious employment and illicit conditions of employment for security guards.
The General Workers Union professionals section signed the three-year agreement with G43, which will give employees a progression system and introduces a number of benefits, including allowances, family-friendly measures and procedures that regulate the working relationship.
G4S is one of the largest global employers and is locally a leading security service provider.
"The GWU is satisfied that such an agreement could be reached and that it ensures further stability and better conditions for G4S workers in Malta," GWU section secretary Cory Greenland said.
The agreement was signed by Kenneth Demartino and Patrick Busuttil for G4S Malta.
