Bastjan Borg inquiry still ongoing – Justice Minister

Five years after it was opened, the inquiry into the death of Bastjan Borg has not been concluded the Justice Minister revealed this evening.

The inquiry into the death of Bastjan Borg, 52 from Qormi, has not yet been concluded, Justice Minister Chris Said revealed this evening.

Said was speaking in parliament, in reply to a parliamentary question raised by backbencher Franco Debono.

The magisterial inquiry was opened in 2007 after Borg, a former Mt Carmel patient, was killed in a police shootout late on a Friday evening in Qormi.

Borg was shot five times by three policemen after causing havoc in Triq il-Kbira, Qormi.

He reportedly damaged private property and failed to obey police orders as he allegedly tried to attack the police officers with a knife.

The autopsy revealed that Borg was hit by three shots in his chest, one in his shoulder and one in his head.
