EU Summit called for May 23

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is to attend an EU Summit in Brussels on May 23.

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has convened a summit of EU leaders for May 23 in Brussels to discuss growth, EU sources have confirmed.

Government sources told MaltaToday that Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has received a formal invitation to attend the summit from President Van Rompuy, which will be the first opportunity for many leaders to meet Francois Hollande since defeating incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy on Sunday.

According to the sources, the summit is expected to be "informal" and will take place over dinner on May 23.

The agenda is said to be focused on how the EU can kick-start growth across the EU, especially within the 17 euro zone countries, while maintaining efforts to cut budget deficits and debt.

The summit will also lay the ground for another meeting on June 28-29 when leaders are scheduled to take formal decisions on their growth and budget consolidation strategy.

When I was a kid I was told never to speak when you have your mouth full of food...and now the leaders of Europe are expected to solve the problem of the Eurozone while eating...Can you imagine them discussing the Eurozone while munching a steak which would cost the taxpayers thousands of Euro considering flights, accomodation etc...nice way to discuss. I always said that we have become a colony of the Kingdom of the BrusselSprouts.

Desppite so many "EU summits", they still haven't found a way how to kick-start growth across the ....17 eurozone countries " ! They cannot realise that the problem is the euro !
