Police get €1.2 million investment in new cars, maritime assets

Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici has unveiled a new fleet of Ford police cars and maritime assets at the Ta' Kandja compound in Siggiewi.

 While a total of €1.22 million were invested in the purchasing of the vehicles, 22 Ford Focus were directly purchased through the Police Fund. The rest of the assets were 80% funded by the European Union's External Borders Fund and 20% paid by government.

The 22 cars will replace the existing mobile squad cars.

The rest of the assets include 12 white Ford Focus saloon cars, two panel vans, four Landrovers to be used by the ALE and the SAG, two trucks equipped with floodlights and two dinghies for inshore patrols.

Unveiling the fleet, Mifsud Bonnici said this was proof of government's commitment in enhancing its police force.

"During no moment did we let our force to degenerate, so as much so as today we are here to unveil our continuous investment and to show the country the good work which is carried out behind the scenes and which is not in the public eye" the minister said.

Mifsud Bonnici said the Police were always on the forefront in their fight against any form illegality and criminality. He also reiterated government's commitment in enhancing the police force with yearly recruitments and the improved intensive training cadets undergo.
