Zammit Dimech hits out at Labour media over ‘intimidation attempts’
Foreign and European Affairs Committee chairman Francis Zammit Dimech has decried reports carried by the Labour media as “attempts to intimidate” him.
Government MP Francis Zammit Dimech this evening hit out at the Labour party media - One News and maltastar.com - for their alleged attempts to intimidate him.
The parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, of which Zammit Dimech is chairman, is currently debating the Opposition motion calling for the resignation of Malta's permanent representative to the EU, Richard Cachia Caruana.
Yesterday, the PL's media carried a report alleging a possible meeting between Zammit Dimech and Cachia Caruana at Mdina, where the latter lives.
"I was in Mdina over personal affaris," Zammit Dimech said. "I condemn these repeated attacks perpetuated by One News and maltastar.com. These attacks continued this morning, simply because I met Cachia Caruana in front of Castille and we said 'hello'."
Zammit Dimech added that if the Labour media was trying to intimidate him and stop him from speaking to the people he knew, they were mistaken.
"I also expect the rest of the committee to support me," Zammit Dimech added.
Reacting to Zammit Dimech's call, Labour MP George Vella said that he condemned the untruth. "But if we have to condemn them, we should also condemn those media who insult you and tell you that it's time to call it a day in politics," he said, referring to the attacks he faced by the Nationalist's media.
