The Nationalist Party has launched a campaign in support of former home affairs minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici who tendered his resignation on Wednesday following the Parliamentary vote which government lost.

The party is urging supporters to send an e-card through its mychoice.pn website where the PN has opened up its social media front.  The PN's secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier is sending thousands of emails urging people to send the card to the beleaguered former minister.

The message on mychoice.pn says " Partit Nazzjonalista is launching a campaign to support Carm Mifsud Bonnici. Show your solidarity with Carm by sending him a note below. Your note will be displayed publicly together with all other messages below."

The initiative has attracted hundreds of subscribers who sent their notes which all express gratitude to Mifsud Bonnici and wish him luck for the future.

A number of subscribers also encourage the former minister to continue offering his services to the country.

Mifsud Bonnici resigned after the Opposition motion calling for his resignation was approved on Wednesday with Nationalist MP Franco Debono breaking ranks and voting with the Opposition.

The prime minister Lawrence Gonzi accepted the resignation and thanked Mifsud Bonnici for his loyalty, service and dedication to the people and the government.

Gonzi assumed the responsibility for home affairs and local government while Foreign Minister Tonio Borg replaced the outgoing minister as Leader of the House.

A good and honest man has been politically sacrificed. there was no gain to anyone in this, but has only served to inflict pain and grieve to this honest person. I know Carmelo personally, I have, and always will have the highest esteem and respect for this gentleman. Dr. Carmelo, they took away the ministry, but no vote will ever be able to TAKE AWAY YOUR DIGNITY

Sympathy card my foot, he must take full responsibilities for his shortcomings. If parliament disowned him it must be cause he was wrong and ignored and he even made it aware whatever anyone says including PN advisers he lambasted them and even boasted of having deaf ears to any critics. Not one single time he admitted the lack of organization in prison , Courts and police, besides laws that should have been implemented in 2005 and put them aside. This ex-minister should resign even from Parliament and compensate the country of lack and laziness he established that even the registrar of courts declared that in thirty years he never seen such a mess. Accumulation of doing nothing at all is what this ex-minister is going to be renowned for . CMB = CICCI MINISTRU BEQQI

CMB has definitely shown that he is a person of true principles and values. Being a minister is a big ordeal and demands quite a commitment as CMB has demonstrated. This whole fracas resignation process could have easily have been avoided by the gonz. On the other hand AG has created much more problems and as yet has not resigned. The PN seems to adopt different measures even within the party itself! If the prime minister continues to ignore the real problems more sufferings for the country and more problems for the PN are envisaged in the near future.

Display this GONZIPN: Dear Bonnici, we are so sorry that you were robbed of your inheritance - the power and prestige and the money that is yours by right of birth. We are all in the same boat as you. Your plight is our warning. We will get you reinstated, whatever the will of the people. You will be transformed into a martyr (albeit, a LIVE ONE). In future times, you and your descendants (not quite 'tal-guv tieghek') will be treated like princes and rewards will be showered on them. I foresee at least one presidency in your future for you or maybe your son.

Carm did not resign he was sacked from parlament after loosing a non confidance vote. There is a difference resigning and being sacked.

Aktar inizzjattivi biex tkompli l-bejatifikazzjoni ta' CMB. Jien nahseb li din ideja sublimi ohra ta' dak li qieghed fil-puitika ghax wieret zewg kunjomijiet, u li bhal CMB jahseb li l-kunjom u r-reputazzjoni tal-isem bizzejjed bied tkun success.

Jiena ghalkemm Laburist jiddispjacini nara lil CMB f'din is-sitwazzjoni ghax sincerament nahseb li hafna milli gara ma kienx tort tieghu imma ta' qablu. Pero' jiena nahseb li CMB mhux simpatija jrid minn ghandi il-poplu imma jerga jiehu post fil-Kabinett u dan jista jigri biss jekk x'hin issir elezzjoni (li ghadna ssir malajr) jerga jitla il-PN fi-Gvern u jerga jaghmel lil CMB bhala Ministru b'responsabilta differenti. Dak li ghandu bzonn CMB mhux karolini minn ghnd Tom, Dick and Harry ghax b'hekk CMB ma hu ha jiehu xejn.

Why the PN have not done the same campaign when Minister John Dalli was forced to resign by Lawrence Gonzi ? Why John Dalli was not rienstated when it trasnpired that the whole thing was a frame up ? Who orchestrated the frame up ? Was there a hidden hand in that frame up ? Who knows , maybe some day someone will decide to uncover everything .

I have know Hon Dr Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici for a long time. He proved to be a gentleman. He was politically respondible and accepted it and resigned. Well done Hon Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici. Now I expect that Administrative respondibility should be shouldered and also resign. Those in the departments under his Ministry, i.e, Premanent Secretaries, Director Generals, Directors and Assistant Directors, or they are expecting that they will get their performance Bonuses. If they do, its a shame. They don't belief in accountability. They were all his Advisors.

My suggestion to Paul Borg Olivier is to send thousands of e-mails, urging people to sent a card, to encourage people who mostly suffered during these last 4 years, especially by higher utility bills, fuel and gas prices and for those loosing their jobs after they received a job letter guarantee signed and sent to them by the Prim Minister. "The message on mychoice.pn says " Partit Nazzjonalista is launching a campaign to support ....................

"PN calls on supporters to send sympathy card to Mifsud Bonnici " ...... OMG has CMB's cat already died of starvation?

Lil John Dalli ma aghmlulux sympathy card imma. X'fatta xkanawh il-barra minn Malta. Dan biex jilghabu tal-vittma lil wiehed u jindemonjaw lil iehor. Lil Dr Franco qed jippruvaw jumiljawh waqt li ghandhom bzonnu bhal hobz, ahseb u ara wara, se jaghmlulu miskin. Ahseb ghal rasek Dott u nhar it-Tnejn ivvota b'mohhok u mhux b'qalbek.

Yet another gimmick! I have some alternative ideas myself. (1) a thank you card to Franco Debono for his bold act and supporting him against Daphne Cachia Caruana' s venomous, disgusting pen. (2) a letter of protest to Prime Minister Gonzi for not behaving in the same way he did with Austin Gatt's own vote of no confidence and allowing Dr. Mifsud Bonnici to fall by the wayside.
