Following Carm Mifsud Bonnici’s resignation as Home Affairs Minister, Police Commissioner John Rizzo, together with Prison Director Abraham Zammit, did not offer to resign from government.

This was confirmed by Rizzo and Zammit to Sunday newspaper Illum.

Contacted yesterday by phone, Rizzo simply replied, “no comment” when asked whether he had offered his resignation. However, an official response was provided by the Police communications office later in the day.

“Police Commissioner John Rizzo denies having offered his resignation to the Government in light of Hon. C. Mifsud Bonnici’s resignation from the post of Home Affairs Minister,” the Depot statement said.

It is expected that when a minister resigns, the heads of departments falling under his portfolio resign as well.

Unforunately, the only resignation from a minister in Malta requested was because a companion PN candidate never accepted competition from other fellows. Why unfortunate? It is unfortunate because the opposition in parliament messed up in a internal feud of the other party. This has a. thwarthed all current problems (especially problems bearing on those below the poverty line); b. left the parliament debating the issue of governance and no attention to the country problems; c. this will be leaving PN thrashing on us for another five years. And tonight we will see the government moving on with the speaker's vote.....wait and see....

Commissioner Rizzo should have resigned ages ago and this is on account of his inefficiencies and not the minister's. Under Rizzo's leadership we have experienced; police shootings, theft of evidence, countless cases of violence and not to mention the disillusion of the citizen with regards the Police Corps. Has the Commissioner followed all recommendations that have been given by ombudsman or police board?
