Richard Stagno-Navarra, former FIFA referee, broadcaster passes away

Maltese sport and broadcasting has lost a popular personality

Former FIFA referee and broadcaster Richard Stagno-Navarra has passed away aged 67.

Stagno-Navarra, who was well known for his love for sports was popularly known as 'Dickie'.

He was the first broadcaster on 'Television Malta' when the national station was handed over to Maltese management from the British services in 1972 and established himself as a newscaster on television and radio.

Richard Stagno-Navarra served as a Communications officer at the British High Commission in Malta, and later an English language teacher in various schools, namely St. Edwards College.

He was recently very actively involved in promoting animal rights legislation.

Mass ‘praesente cadavere’ will be said on Tuesday 22nd June at the Balzan Parish Church at 8.30am.
