TV quality degradation down to Italian digital switchover
Communications authority in touch with Italian counterparts to resolve matter.
The Malta Communications Authority is in contact with its Italian counterparts over a serious degradation in transmission of local digital TV providers.
The MCA said that following the switchover of TV transmissions to digital in Sicily, high levels of interference were being experienced on a number of frequency channels in use in Malta, leading to a serious degradation in transmissions of local service providers.
The MCA said it is in touch with Italy's ministry of economic development and the national regulator Agcom, with a view to the earliest cessation of this interference.
According to the MCA, the Italian authorities have attributed the transmission issues to initial teething technical problems related to the switchover, which were also experienced with other neighbouring countries.
