Dangerous pets expected to be banned

A legal notice which is shortly to be published contemplates stiff penalties for owners of exotic animals who do not register their pet with the authorities, The Times reports today.

If the animals are not registered within three months, owners could face fines totalling up to EUR 46,500.

The legal notice is expected to include a list of animals both dangerous and exotic which cannot be imported. It is expected to fill a void which was exposed last year with the discovery of a Bengal tiger being kept as a pet in Mosta.
