Labour walkout from Select Committee considered “infantile” by AD

Alternattiva Demokratika has filed a judicial protest against the Prime Minister and the Opposition leader asking them to amend the electoral law

Briguglio said that the PL’s withdrawl from the Select Committee is “infantile and disappointing” and renders the situation regarding the unfairness of electoral law as “worse than before, leaving us with no choice but to protest through the Court”.

“We believe that the law is in our favour but politics is not” Michael Briguglio told MaltaToday.

AD this morning presented a judicial protest against the Labour and Natioanlist Parties on the stalling of electoral reform.

AD said that the district system should remain, but with a national threshold of 2.5%. This system, they said, would be responsible and guarantee democracy.

Arnold Cassola rendered the status of Malta’s electoral law as “anti-constitutional”, as it only benefits two big parties, excluding other small parties. He appealed to the EU Commission and European Parliament to make recommendations for cases of unproportionality.

Cassola also said that of all EU countries, Malta is the only one with two parties, with even smaller countries such as Andorra and San Marino endorsing plurality. “This case should be concluded within 3 years, before the next elections”, Cassola said.

If the PL walk out was infantile, what was the PN when it boycotted the Parliament for nearly two years in the 80's?
