MISCO survey claims Labour’s 10-point lead in polls

If elections were to be held today, the Labour Party would be in for a landslide victory according to a report in The Sunday Times today and a survey carried by MaltaToday last month.

The Sunday Times this week commissioned MISCO to carry out a three-day survey among 500 respondents to determine the electorate's voting intentions. If an election was held tomorrow, 31.9 per cent of respondents said they would vote Labour while 22.2 per cent would vote for the PN.

But a MaltaToday survey - that have already accurately predicted the results of general and European Parliament elections, and consistently recognised the growing tide in favour of the introduction of divorce in Malta - last month revealed that the Labour Party actually enjoyed a comfortable 12-point lead over the PN.

Both studies however converged on the percentage of how many voters who voted PN in 2008 would now turn to Labour. While MaltaToday's survey found that this proportion stands at 10%, The Sunday Times's found it to be 9%.

The PL's stronger lead is also highlighted by an increased support for Joseph Muscat's leadership.

According to The Sunday Times, while 47% of the respondents said that they weren't satisfied by Lawrence Gonzi's leadership, only 29% said they weren't happy with Joseph Muscat, even though 34% said they didn't know how to rate Muscat.

On the other hand, MaltaToday's survey showed Muscat gaining half a percentage point over its May ratings.

MaltaToday's survey also showed that the gap between the two leaders remained substantially lower than it was in March. While Muscat enjoyed a 14-point lead in March, this dropped to less than nine points.
