Unpaid wages for ETC trainers amount to €50,000
The Employment and Training Corporation has yet to pay its trainers €50,000.
59 trainers employed by the ETC have not yet received the salary of May and June, Sunday newspaper Illum reveals.
The arrears amount to €50,000. The corporation itself confirmed the figure.
The trainers are working within the Employability Programme, a project part-financed by the European Social Fund.
In justifying the delay, the ETC said that the salary process takes between three weeks and a month for it process the invoices at the end of the month, and sent to the Treasurer for payment. The documents, it said, must pass through three different stages.
But the main problem arose when the Project Leader resigned. According to the ETC, the project leader was the only person who could certify the payments related to the project.
