Muscat raises Bianca Zammit incident with Lieberman

The Opposition leader says the situation in the Middle East is of concern to the Labour party

The Labour party said in a statement today that leader Joseph Muscat has raised the matter of the shooting of Bianca Zammit, a Maltese activist with the International Solidarity Movement was was shot in the leg by Israeli soldiers, with Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman.

The statement said that Muscat "expressed his concern at the incident" and that he "eagerly expected any direct action that can reduce the tension in the region."

Earlier on, Lieberman was met with a barrage of protest from demonstrators Moviment Graffitti, outside Castille just before his meeting with the Prime Minister.

Labour said it had discussed how to strengthen relations between Malta and Israel, and quoted Lieberman sayig that "few understood Israel's position" on the Gaza blockade.

The PL said both sides discussed ways of collaborating on tourism, education, and alternative energy.
