Air Malta cannot take disciplinary action against pilots' boss
Air Malta cannot open an independent inquiry on pilots’ association boss Dominic Azzopardi, accused of delaying an Air Malta flight.
After claiming that it will be initiating an investigation on the delay of a flight from Milan due to the late arrival of the pilots' association (ALPA) president Dominic Azzopardi, Air Malta has not initiated any proceedings.
An Air Malta spokesperson had declared that the airline was investigating the delay of a flight from Milan to Malta after the captain waited 30 minutes for Azzopardi.
Sunday newspaper Illum reports that the investigations cannot take place because the company's collective agreement stipulates that investigations regarding disciplinary action can only take place up to one month after the date of the alleged infringemnt.
Following the report which was published on the Sunday Times, Air Malta had said it was "taking the incident very seriously" and treating the case as "misuse of authority."
Azzopardi had vehemently denied delaying an Air Malta flight and insisted that the airline is trying to get back to him and ALPA for giving notice of an industrial dispute.
Since then, the two parties have come to an agreement over a new collective agreement which is yet to be finalised.
