Greek businessman jailed for €500,000 betting fraud

Greek director of a defunct Malta-based betting company has been jailed for 14 months over €500,000 fraud to the detriment of a number of players.

Greek national Dimitrios Drosos, 45, director and founder of Gold Victory Limited, who was arrested and extradited to Malta after absconding from prosecution, was jailed this morning for misappropriating the winnings made by a number of players through his Malta-based online betting company.

Drosos, who lives in Kappara, was arrested and prosecuted in 2011 after the Lotteries and Gaming Authority received a number of complaints related to unpaid winnings.

 Dimitrios Drosos being escorted by a Greek Policeman when arrested in Athens on the strength of a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Maltese Police.

The Greek business man and Paok BC football team owner, had jumped bail when he requested to go to Greece for a medical check-up and never returned.

While forfeiting €70,000 which was set as his bail bond, Drosos was arrested in Athens earlier this year and extradited to Malta on the strength of a European Arrest Warrant.
