An elderly Welshman has died at Mater Dei Hospital after he was taken ill on board a cruise ship off Malta.
Mater Dei Hospital
The 78 year-old passenger, identified as Gwyn Taylor-Williams was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital after he suffered heart failure on his fifth day of a Mediterranean cruise, together with his wife.
The ship's captain decided to dock in Malta after he contacted port authorities about the patient.
Taylor-Williams, who fell ill while celebrating his birthday on board the cruise ship, was described as a "well respected and much-loved" former teacher from Llandudno in North Wales.
His wife Gill said that "the ironic thing is, if he could've died anywhere other than Wales, it would've been Malta because he loved his Malta buses and he'd been there three times before."
