Remanded for beating former girlfriend, breaching bail conditions

A man who is to stand trial for attempted murder has been remanded in custody after being charged with seriously injuring his former girlfriend.

David Jonathan Spiteri, 23 of Luqa was remanded in custody by Magistrate Audrey Demicoli after he was charged with seriously injuring his former girlfriend Frances Agius of Rabat.

Spiteri, who pleaded not guilty, was charged with grievious bodily harm, harassment and breaching bail conditions imposed on him by another court, where he is charged with the attempted murder of another man.

Spiteri forfeited a bail deposit of €1,164 and a personal guarantee of €11,646 as Magistrate Demicoli ruled that the monies were to be cashed in by the State.

He is awaiting trial for allegedly shooting a man during a fight at Footloose club in Paceville in August 2007.

Spiteri was escorted to Corradino Prisons.
