Mali man charged with Ivorian’s murder

Immigrant charged with murder of Ivorian asylum seeker

Fodie Keita, 33, an asylum seeker from Mali, has been charged with the murder of Adame Diabate, a 33-year-old Ivorian.

Diabate was found buried under a carob tree in a field close to a hangar used for housing immigrants in Ħal Far on 6 June.

Keita pleaded not guilty to killing Diabate and being in possession of a fireman. The court accepted a request from his legal aid lawyer for Keita be kept at Mount Carmel because he suffered from suicidal tendencies.

Diabate was found near Tal-Ġebel Road by migrants who were crossing the field, with only his person’s fingers were protruding from the soil. There were no signs of decomposition on the body. Magistrate Giovanni Grixti launched the inquiry into the discovery of the body.
