Infamous Boiler number 7 at the Marsa Power Station tripped after suffering a fault this afternoon.

As a result, parts of Iklin, San Gwann, Balzan, Lija, Birkirkara, Mriehel, Qormi, Santa Venera, Valletta, Msida, Sliema and Gzira suffered a power cut.

Enemalta engineers started to give back supply at 5:35pm and by 6pm, all affected consumers were reenergised.

Enemalta said the very short response time was due to the starting up of the fast start emergency plant together with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, which is able to remotely control the Distribution Centre, resulting in a shorter suspension time.

The cause of the fault is currently being investigated and Enemalta apologised for any inconvenience caused.
