Cirkewwa terminal to be opened nine years late
The Cirkewwa passenger terminal set to be inaugurated in November, nine years after it was planned to open.
The temporary tent in Cirkewwa has cost the government 28,320 per year.
Transport Malta has confirmed that the new Cirkewwa passenger terminal will be inaugurated in November, a few weeks before the looming election and nine years after it was earmarked to open.
Sunday newspaper Illum was informed by Transport Malta that new terminal will be opened in November, despite other claims that the terminal will be opened in December.
The €5 million terminal has been at the centre of numerous controversies, stemming from the original plans by former Transport Minister Censu Galea who had planned to open the terminal in 2003.
The completion of the project was consequently postponed to 2006 by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, however the project suffered several delays.
