Insulting husband ‘forgives’ wife for stabbing him
A husband who mocked and insulted his wife, even as she attempted to commit suicide, told a court this morning that he was “forgiving” her, for stabbing him.
Stabbing victim Jason Ellul told Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona that he was forgiving his now estranged wife Charmaine, for having injured him with a knife during a row at their home in November 2011.
Ellul said that although he was reserving his right not to testify against his estranged wife, he was forgiving her for what she did to him.
Charmaine Ellul of Ghaxaq, is accused of causing slight injuries to her husband Jason after she reacted by hitting him with a knife before collapsing under a medicine overdose and was taken to hospital.
Inspector Carlos Cordina who investigated the case told the court that from evidence he gathered following the incident, Ellul's husband called her "ugly" and a "whore." He said that he visited the woman in hospital who was in a clear state of shock and anxiety
Lawyer Giannella de Marco who is appearing for Ellul said that Jason Ellul's only care was for the cost of the pills she took to end her life. "Distraught, the woman grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband," de Marco said.
.Ellul was said to have been kept at a psychiatric ward for some months. The case continues.
