Former Libyan Prime Minister visits PN headquarters
Former Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril thanks Malta for its contribution in 2011 Libyan uprising during visit to PN headquarters.
Libya and its people will never forget Malta's contribution during their fight for freedom and during the birth of a free Libya, Mahmoud Jibril said.
Jibril, Libya's first post-gaddafi Prime Minister was speaking during a visit to the PN headquarters in Pietà on Wednesday.
Jibril led Libya for seven and a half months as the head of the National Transitional Council and now heads the National Forces Alliance (NFA), a coalition which gathers a number of Libyan political parties.
He met PN general secretary Paul Borg Olivier, who was accompanied by party President Marthese Portelli and international secretary John Bonello.
Borg Olivier said during the Libyan conflict the PN was consistent with its belief in human dignity and offered the PN's help and experience with Libyan parties.
Jibril said the bond between the two countries was strenghtend during the conflict and thanked the PN for the opportunity it gave the NFA to share ideas with a party whose history was among the oldest in the region.
On Thursday, he will be addressing the EPP Bureau Meeting in Malta, which will discuss the challenges presented by the Arab uprisings.
As interim prime minister between March and October 2011, Mahmoud Jibril was one of the most high-profile figures in the conflict that ousted long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi.
That prominence appeared to have paid off during the first elections held in July 2012, when the NFA won 39 of the 80 party-list seats in the National Congress and esteblished itself as the leading party in Libya.
There is speculation that he will have a key future position, possibly as president, in the post-Gaddafi era.
Due to election laws banning members of the ruling National Transition Council (NTC) running for parliament, he was not a contender himself.
