Franco Debono ‘proud’ to vote against budget
Nationalist MP Franco Debono says he is “determined and extremely proud” to vote against 2013 Budget to be presented on Wednesday.
With only four days remaining before finance minister presents the 2013 Budget, Nationalist MP Franco Debono insisted with MaltaToday that he is determined and proud to vote against the budget.
"My position remains unchanged. As long as Austin Gatt remains a minister I will definitely vote against the budget," Debono said. He pointed out that the government chose to walk the tightrope going into a budget with a motion of no-confidence hanging on Transport Minister Austin Gatt.
"I am determined and extremely proud to vote against the budget. I am the only one to have the gall to stand up to Austin Gatt. For the first time ever, somebody will stand up to him," Debono said.
Given government's precarious situation in Parliament, a vote against the budget will be the current administration's demise and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi will have no option but to dissolve Parliament and call elections.
The 2013 Budget vote is expected to be taken in the first week of December, as the vote is normally taken by Parliament nine days after the presentation of the budget.
This year's budget, the last in this legislature, will take place two days before the PN deputy leader election.
