Concern on sun exposure falls by 17%
The number of Maltese who think that the sun affects their health to a large extent has dropped from 72% to 57% over the past four years, a Eurobarometer survey published last week shows.
The survey also shows that 12% of the Maltese think that exposure to the the sun poses no health risk at all, while 30% think that it has some effect. Despite the decline in the number of people who believe that the sun poses a threat to their health, Malta still registers the second highest concern on sun exposure.
The most concerned on the health impact of sun exposure were the Italians: 75% of whom believe that exposure to the sun affects their health to a large extent, followed by Malta and Greece (both 57%). Respondents in Latvia (30%), Romania, Denmark and France (all three 25%) were more likely to believe that exposure to sun has no health impact.
The survey also shows a high level of concern in Malta on air quality. 64% of the Maltese think that air quality has a major impact on human health while 24% think it has some impact. Only 11% think it has no impact at all.
The most concerned on air quality were respondents in Italy (90%), followed by respondents in Greece (66%) and Malta (64%). The number of Maltese concerned on air quality remained the same as four years ago.
