Villa Frieres development will make Spinola unattractive – AD
Frieres development will ruin St Julian’s and increase vacant residencies, says green party.
Alternattiva Demokratika said that a permit for the development of Villa Frieres should not be approved by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.
"MEPA should not approve this development, which will make the beautiful Spinola area unattractive," AD chairperson Michael Briguglio said. "St Julian's residents have already been burdened with overdevelopment."
AD deputy chairman and spokesperson on development and home affairs, Carmel Cacopardo said "the proposed development dwarfs Spinola Square and is out of sync with its surroundings".
He also said that it will increase traffic in the area. When seeing Villa Freres as one part of a whole series of developments, Cacopardo claimed it will contribute to a lower air quality in the area. "The cumulative effect of this overdevelopment has not only ruined St Julian's but also creates an ever increasing amount of vacant residencies."
