New posts for top police officers on eve of election, says shadow minister
Labour MP Michael Falzon says applications for assistant commissioners being issued as part of government electioneering.
Shadow home affairs minister Michael Falzon is claiming that various promotions are to be dished out inside the police corps, in a gesture of electioneering as matters come to a head inside parliament.
Falzon said in a statement that new posts for assistant commissioners, superintendents and police inspectors have been opened on the eve of the election.
"A new controversy is about to erupt over the qualifications for the applications for inspectors, especially female, where the average height required for these posts is higher than the national average. Some people think intelligent policing depends on height," Falzon said.
Falzon also said many of his PQs on the additions in staff complement were not being answered completely by the Prime Minister, who assumed the responsibility for the home affairs ministry since the resignation of Carm Mifsud Bonnici in a no-confidence motion.
