AD calls for inclusive policies for disabled
Alternattiva Demokratika says pensions for disabled persons should be increased.
During a national conference on disability, Alternattiva Demokratika - called for more inclusive policies for persons with disability.
Alternattiva Demokratika's spokesperson, Arnold Cassola, said: "The Budget has included a number of measures which are beneficial to people with a disability. However, not all disabled people work or go to University. A good number still rely on their pension which is a real pittance."
He added that Alternattiva Demokratika is proposing in its manifesto that their pensions are increased from the current amount of 55% of the national minimum wage.
"AD is calling for better enforcement of disability laws with regards to quotas and equal opportunities. The Green Party will be proposing in its electoral manifesto the compulsory usage of sign language and subtitles in TV News and films as well as the recognition of ME and FB as conditions which deserve disability status," Cassola said.
The Green Party also stressed that programmes for living in community should be expanded whilst the necessary support for independent living should be provided by the state.
