Gonzi to discuss illegal immigration with Berlusconi

This was announced yesterday evening during the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano’s state visit to Malta.

Maltese and Italian ministers responsible for Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs and Defense will be meeting beforehand on a ministerial level. Referring to the various problems which occurred between Malta and Italy last year, Gonzi said political, economical, cultural and personal ties are still strong between both countries.

In March and April of 2009, Malta and Italy had several standoffs regarding who should take in illegal immigrants escaping from Libyan coasts.
