Maltese and two Libyans indicted on drug trafficking charges
Magistrate Antonio Mizzi yesterday indicted a Maltese and two Libyans with trafficking 20 kg of cannabis resin and association
Maltese barman Godfrey Gambin, 34, Libyans Nabeil Ibrahim Saleh, 38 and Adel Mohammed Baban, 45 pleaded not guilty to the accusations brought against them. The three men were arrested last Wednesday after Police found 20 kilograms of cannabis resin after Police were informed that drug would be smuggled in by sea in Xemxija. In fact, the drug was smuggled in with a speedboat.
Police investigations show that there is a possibility that any one of the three men might have, more than once, left from Libya and gone to Morocco before coming to Malta. Assisting the Police during their investigations were Maritime Squad of the Maltese Armed Force.
Godfrey Gambin was also indicted that in the past months before the 30th of June, he was in possession of cannabis resin and relapsed after sentences given by Magisterial Court in three other occasions.
Saleh was indicted of illegally coming to Malta. The three accused were kept under preventive arrest were the accused did not ask to be released from custody.
